Director of Nagarjuna’s ‘King’, Sreenu Vaitla is all excited about his movie’s release on 25th December and spoke to the media today on 24th December at Annapurna Studios. Being a speculated movie, audience are eager to see it on screens tomorrow and this interview with the director gives a glimpse of what’s in store for us.

Share a few words about King?

The movie is an entertainer that packs all the elements that the audiences expect. It will deliver quality entertainment and be a treat for Nag’s fans.

How do you feel directing Nagarjuna once again?

Working with Nagarjuna is a cool experience as he is down to earth. He’s always poised and gives me ultimate freedom in making the movie in my style. This is my 10th film and I had 100% co operation from his side. I would like to work him multiple times after this movie.

Describe the character of Nagarjuna’s?

He is playing the role of Bottu Seenu, Sarath a software engineer and as King. The first satisfies the masses with his rustic style, second is elegant while ‘King’ is from the royal background. We have shot in the Bangalore palace for those scenes. And Nag has displayed enough differentiation among these three roles.

How did you opt for such lyrics in the title song?

I was constrained at first to use such lyrics that say like ‘Brea ‘King’ records’ which might hurt someone. But the lines were not particularly written as it was just a rhyming along with the word ‘King’ all along. Devi Sri Prasad insisted me to carry on with it as it gives the appeal and is not commendable. So, I didn’t chop it off and I can assure you it doesn’t offend anyone. I am not for preening about breaking records anytime.

Who is Brahmanandam in ‘King’?

Brahmanandam is our valuable asset in the movie to evoke humor at the right points and this time he comes in the role of ‘Jayasurya’ who’s a music director. Even though the movie is not about the industry, we have paralleled his part along with the story line. His character will be vibrant and tickle your funny bone.

What inspired you to cast in the heroine for a song?

The song is quite colorful and has been repeatedly asked about after the stills got out. It comes in the second half during an anticipated scene. All the heroines have come together to make it spectacular and yes, I was inspired by the ‘Om Shanti Om’.

What is the scope for Srihari’s role?

Srihari is a talented actor and I used to trust him with immense roles. This time, I have featured him in a meaty role that is about 10 times more powerful that what he did in ‘Dhee’. I am sure it will be one of the acclaimed roles.

What is your comment on music director Devi Sri Prasad?

I am sure as the music is out you can know how good the songs are. Earlier, he commented that in ‘Ready’, the visual treatment in the movie dominated music in all terms. But this time, he has given me a tough time by bringing out tunes that are equal in quality to the movie itself.

What do you feel about producer Siva Prasad Reddy?

I had a name and I usually get into tussle with the producers. But, I never had any difference of opinion with Siva Prasad as he let me make the movie without any conditions. He never interfered which gave me freedom to bring out a good movie. His co-operation was immense in this project.

What do you have to say about ‘King’ on the whole?

To be frank, I never felt I worked in a project but I feel like I was on a vacation and has now completed it. Each of my co-technicians were completely dedicated and rendered their full support. They shared my stress but never gave up. I owe my crew for their contribution and also to the actor and producer. I am completely satisfied with the way ‘King’ has emerged and confident that it will do good.
